We left in the afternoon as it is a short trip to Baume les Dames. All good on a sunny day. The capitainierre has a nice restaurant steps from the boat. Enjoyable outside patio as well. We are away from the town so it is quiet, and the Super U store just a walk away. On Sunday there was a big garage sale in the parking lot of the store. We found all sorts of good things to supplement the clothes that we didn't have! Good fun too. We bicycled to a lock up the ways and helped a new boating friend, Jean Pierre, with a large lock. Explored the area. Another day we hiked up to the Croix de Chatard, high up on the cliff overlooking the town. Great views up there of all of the area. Made it a loop trip and the second half was a worse trail and steep! Glad we had hiking poles and that we made it down. Turned out that we ended up at the place we had biked to! Next time we go back down the other way. Had dinner at the Capitainierre...
Took Juniper from Dole down the Rhine au Rhine to the Saone River and past Saint Jean des Losne to Seurre. Swans and cows!!! Went through our first BIG LOCK. Got there early evening and walked through the town. Beautiful waterfront park. Good dinner by chef Ann! Relaxing morning and then went from Seure to Chalon sur Saone and the second big lock. We seem small in these large locks meant to hold the barges we have been seeing in the river hauling commerce. Chalon is a lively place with lots of restaurants nearby and stores for anything we might need. Settled on going out to a nice lunch and it was very good!!! Good meals on board with Ann cooking and the market foods. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Got chores done and enjoyed the city!
Well, here we go again on the wonderful canal boat Juniper! Flying into Frankfurt, Germany June 13th avoiding the Paris Olympics. Accompanied by Tom Forbes and our friend, Erica Enyart! Erica lives in Albuquerque, NM. We stayed a night in Frankfurt and enjoyed walking through the Old Town area. They were gearing up for the EURO 2024 soccer matches. Train trip on the German ICE train to Basel, Switzerland, the TGV to Dijon, then TER to Saint Jean de Losne, Juniper's home port. Boat looked great due to our partners, Mary and Tom, having taken care of her. Settled in and saw the town; went to the weekly Market, had a beer by the river Saone. Went to a great history museum of the area Then our nephew Greg Simmons arrived for the weekend, from a conference in Lyon. Greg lives in Sweden and has been on Juniper. Headed to Auxonne to do sea trials and spend the weekend. Great weather for traveling and nice marin...
